                                                        Obadiah Bodie Sr.

Narcissa (Bodie) Or Corder?

Below are the members of the Obadiah Bodie household as listed in the 1850 census for Edgefield County  page 171B.

Narcissa Corder age 1 month  is listed at the same House Number as Obadiah, along with an older sister, Laura age 1, their mother Elizabeth (Bodie) Cordan age 20 and their Father Morgan Cordan 19. Elizabeth is Obadiah's oldest daughter

and her and Morgan's family are listed in the middle of Obadiah's children.

This is the reasoning you could believe Narcissa is Obadiah's granddaughter and not his daughter,

Below are the members of the Obadiah Bodie household as listed in the 1860 census page 157 including Obadiah Jr.'s Family.

Elizabeth and Morgan Corder have moved on. How ever there are still two young girls living in the house. We know F. H. is Frances Hannah who Married Lem Rogers. If N.E. is  Narcissa then the names and ages in the 1950 census are mixed up and Narcissa should only be 10 years old in this census.

John R. Allen was the enumerator for the first census and J. Hamilton Allen for the 1860 census. This adds more confusion to the ciphering. When interpreting cursive hand writing it's easy to confuse a capital H with a capital A, so the enumerator could be the same person. If you're confused about who Narcissa was, you might as well accept the family line, that she's Obadiah's daughter and John Allen was sampling the family distilleries while enumerating the family. After all John R. is the same person who gave us Chisley, Risley and Ena Sardinia Rodges.
